Mark 10:13-22

Sermon by Pastor Nick Krauss; Sermon Text: Mark 10:13-22

There is no more important question we can ask ourselves than this one: “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” (Mark 10:17). And there is no better place to go for an answer than to Jesus. Why? Because Jesus is the Son of God, the source of all life, incarnate (John 1:4; see Psalm 36:9), and Jesus is the King of the Kingdom of God (what the title “Christ” means) who governs who enters His kingdom to receive eternal life (receiving “eternal life” in Mark 10:17 is equated with “entering the Kingdom of God” in v.23). God’s answer to this question is striking: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). We need to learn why we cannot do enough to earn eternal life, and why it has to be a gift we receive from Jesus.
